CARTAGENA, SPAIN
"Very kind, very loyal, always heroic"
Cartagena was funded under the name of Qart Hadasht by the general Asdrúbal in the year 221 BC. With strong Roman and Arab influence, Cartagena was named the Capital of the Maritime Department of the Mediterranean, in 1873. In the XIX century, the mining industry got developed very much, bringing about a huge development of the city.
Nowadays, with more than 200.000 habitants, Cartagena is known as the Capital of the Cultures, because people from different countries and cultures live here or come to visit.

... and the Mayor Street....
Look who I found!! and teacher who founded the first Popular University of Cartagena in 1931. He was also the first woman who became an "academic numerary" of the Real Academia Española delivering her induction speech in 1979.
Along these streets there are numerous bar, cafés, and shops where you can take you humans for a drink, lunch o shopping, since in most of the places (shops included) dogs are allowed. People are really nice at dogs in Cartagena!!
In this website you can see what shops you can take your humans for shopping
At the end of the Mayor Street, you can find two nice spots. La Explanada de los Héroes de Cavite y Santiago de Cuba to honor those who fought during the war...
Also on Christmas you can visit the Nativity Scene....
Next to the city hall, you can see the sculpture " El soldado de reemplazo", to honor all those marines who go to Cartagena during their service.
There are more sculptures all over the city center. You can find more information about these sculptures in this website: https://turismo.cartagena.es/esculturas.asp
If you keep walking, you will see the port of Cartagena where you can enjoy the views...
Here I am with my friend Lorrain. She is British but she loves Spain so much, that..
Spain adopted her 😀
If your humans like museums, they cannot miss the Subaquatic Archeology National Museum ARQV, that is located in the port of Cartagena.
If you and your humans are more adventurous, you can take them to a cruise or a boat trip or to do other fun activities that the port of Cartagena organizes.

In case your humans do not feel like driving to visit Cartagena city, do not worry!!!
You all can take a public bus, since dogs are allowed!
If your humans are hungry or thirsty, you are in the right place! You can take them to one of the may bars, cafés or restaurants that are all over the city center. In all of them, dogs are allowed in the outside area, and in some of them in the indoor area too. Just tell your humans to ask. Some of my favorite places are:
Mano a mano: https://www.manoamano-pye.com/
It is a mixture of Italian and Argentine cuisine that your humans will love 😍
Another cool place is El Cantón: https://elcantonbar.es/, where your humans can eat local tapas and dishes. They love dogs!!!
If you prefer having a drink next to the beach, Spinosa is your place! https://spinosacenter.com/
It is in Los Narejos, near Cartagena. Spinosa is a restaurant and bar where you can take your humans to have a delicious cocktail or meal. Music is cool and there is a school of water sports: kitesurf, wing foil, paddle sup, windsurf.
And most importantly, they love dogs!!! in both the outside and the indoor areas.
Another cool thing to do with your humans is to visit the Roman Theater.
Next to El Cantón bar, you will find the beginning of the route.
Poor him... I scared him to death... 😝
By the way, if you take your humans here in the evening.... stay until the sunset. It is very beautiful. They will love it 💖
If you are more a hiking dog, Cartagena is also your city. There are some beautiful places to take your human family to hiking and to spend a wonderful day in the nature.
For example, recently I took my human to "Monte Roldán"
This trail is just to one hour walking from the parking lot. In the middle of the trail, you will see some signs that lead you to different places.
Another cool place to go hiking is TENTEGORRA
It is a 5 minutes from the city center of Cartagena and it is a place to enjoy with your whole tow-legged family since there are many things to do. To name a few, you can get lost in its hedgerow maze which is the biggest one in Spain.
There is a huge barbeque area for your family to cook some delicious food.
Perhaps you are more a beach dog?
No worries!!! We also have nice beaches in Cartagena area 😀😀
La Manga, Playa Levante, Cala Reona, Calblaque, Cala Cortina, La Azohía, El Portús, el Mar Menor... You name it!!! All of them are beautiful 😎
During Fall and Winter, you can ask your humans to take it to the beach. Because there are not many people on the beach during these seasons, dogs can go to any beach, maybe to run, chase the seagulls... or maybe swing, if you like cold water!
Take a look tat these links:
La Calera/Isla Plana: https://www.redcanina.es/playa-para-perros-en-cartagena-isla-plana/
Nature Park Clablanque: https://www.srperro.com/parque-natural-calblanque/. Officially, dogs are not allowed in this beach, but many people take their dogs. If you behave properly and your humans clean after you, the police do not say anything about you being with your human family in this beach.
Playa el Portús: https://www.minube.com/rincon/playa-del-portus-a85518. It is a beautiful and peaceful small beach where your humans can do kayaking and other water sports. There is also a naturist camping where dogs are allowed. Local people usually take their dogs to this beach.
One of the most popular activities that people do in Cartagena area is GOLFING
There are some golf resorts all around Cartagena area. Some of these golf resorts are:
Roda Golf & Beach Resort: https://www.rodagolf.com/
It is in the Mar Menor sea, next Los Narejos town. It has a beautiful golf court, apartments and villas, as well as many swimming pools, an amazing restaurant and a gym, among other things.
La Manga Club Resort: https://lamangaclub.com/en
It is a sport and leisure destination located in La Manga town, next to the beach. It has apartments, villas, swimming pools, 28 tennis courts, a golf court, football fields, a wonderful hotel, etc.
My favorite resort is Mar Menor Golf and Spa Resort:
and a 5-star hotel and SPA...
